lappy prob

a friends has asked me to look at their laptop as it wont boot up.

when you push the power button the hdd led lightd for 1/2 a second then goes out

processor fan spins for about 5 seconds then stops

dvd drive light comes on and wont go off and wont eject

nothing on the screen not even a flicker

only way to power off is to take out the battery and pull out the power cord.

tryed hdd in and out,dvd drive in and out and ive swapped the dimms around with no avail.

im guessing either mobo or cpu failure most likely mobo but am just trying to get a second opinion incase theres anything ive missed.



also the story is it worked one night then the next day    nothing.

My friend had the same thing,
Had be well confused but in the end the cpu was over heating,
So striped it all down and put some new thermal grease and works ok now.

i remember seing a post of when u was choosing a lappy, or was that some one else? As far as laptops go and for the price you pay I do think the vaio is the way foward

Iknow this thread is quite old but did you ever sort this problem out  i'm experiencing the exact same symptons
